PES Congress 2006 - Porto, Portugal

Ruairi Quinn TD on podium of PES Congress 2006
The final session of the hugely successful PES Congress 2006 has closed. The Labour Party - Ireland Delegation this year is quite large. We have a a broad delegation lead by Proinsias De Rossa MEP and Ruairi Quinn TD.

The main interests at the congress are the variety of very interesting and engaging fringe events organised by PES partners such as ECOSY - Young European Socialist, COMPASS, Global Progressive Forum and the Labour Party of the Britain. ECOSY in particular have had several fringe meetings and a meeting of all the Leader's of ECOSY organisations present at the congress. The building is impressively simple being in a converted tram yard.

Segolene Royal, Howard Dean, John Prescott and the always inspiring Poul Nyrub Rasmussen are all in attendence at the conference. Segolene openned the conference giving a powerful call for European to be led by the people's will for change and a call for leaders of Europe to ensure democracy grows in Europe at all levels, top in Brussels and at the bottom in society in general.
Unfortunitly Howard Dean did not attend the Global Progressive Forum Fringe event as planned. I was looking forward to a roar!!

Got to run. Will finish a more detailed post later
